Sometimes I think all this technology that allows us to stay "connected" is little more than a curse.

The Mormons are coming over tonight at 7:00. It is now 6:15 and Chris is nowhere to be found. He really should've been home no later than six, even in bad traffic.

Ordinarily, it wouldn't be *that* big of a deal. But I told him the Mormons were coming, and I told him they'd be here at seven. Well, I tried to call him on his cell phone. No answer. Now I'm even more worried.

I'm more worried because a cell phone means that you can get in touch with someone whenever you need to, right? It's portable, supposedly with them at all times. What possible reason could there be for him not to answer the phone? Plenty, of course. He could have left it somewhere, or the batteries could be dead or he doesn't have a signal. The possibilities that don't involve him lying in a ditch somewhere are pretty numerous.

Nonetheless, now that he has a cell phone, I should be able to talk to him whenever I need to, right? He's never supposed to be out of reach, right?

Bah! Technology! I liked it better when we didn't have cell phones.
