It was a fine idea at the time, now it's a brilliant mistake...

Listen up, kids. I'm here to tell you, once and for all that owning a home is *not* all it's cracked up to be. After being a homeowner for the past 2+ years, I don't have very many nice things to say about it.

I'll admit, though, that's probably largely my fault. I didn't really buy this house for the right reasons. I thought I was supposed to buy a house, I guess. I thought renting was for suckers. I still do, in a way, but now I realize that people rent for a lot of reasons, not all of them misguided.

The long and short of it is, owning a home never gets cheaper. Ever. If the taxes don't go up, than the insurance goes up (or if you live in Texas, both go up at the same time astronomically). You find out you have termites. The AC needs to be replaced. The carpet needs to be replaced. The sink leaks. The toilet runs. You have silverfish. or ants. or both. It's too small, too old or expensive. It's no longer worth what you paid for it (if it ever was). And it's very difficult to get out of.

All the above is currently happening to me. After two years my husband and I have come to the conclusion that we have made a big mistake, but our options don't look good.

It's a learning experience, though. Right? Builds character?
