Atari Adventure
Okay, now this brings back memories. I was maybe 8 or 9 and I was living in Germany at the time with my Dad and his new wife. We lived off-post and a few streets down from me lived my friend Katie. I had a crush on her older brother, who was probably a geek. He had curly brown hair and wore glasses. I thought he was soo cute. I used to get all nervous when I went to her house. Katey was older than me, and he was older than her, so he was, maybe 14?
Anyway, he introduced me to the wonders of Atari and the game Adventure. It seems so prehistoric now that I see it again after all these (20!) years, but I had never seen anything like it. He even showed me how to get to the Secret Room, but I could never get there again. Talk about a metaphor for life.
I can't remember his name now. I just tried to look up Katie on Google, but I can't remember if she was a Katherine or a Kathleen.
That's the trouble with getting old. Nothing you experience in the future is ever going to be as full of wonder as the things you experience when you are a kid. It can't, really. Back then, new things were really new. As you get older, things happen to you that have never happened to you before, but after a certain number of years on the earth, it's really all just variations on a theme.
Anyway, go play Atari.
